Age: 1-2 years
The lycée’s Montessori nursery offers a caring and stimulating environment for children aged 1 to 2. Inspired by Montessori pedagogy, it encourages autonomy, respect for each child’s rhythm and exploration through sensory and motor activities. The very first skills, such as recognising shapes and colours, acquiring language, coordinating movements and discovering the environment, are encouraged in a fun and natural way.
Supervised by trained educators, the little ones develop their curiosity, self-confidence and independence in a safe environment tailored to their needs.
Cycle 1: early learning cycle (3 to 6 years)
Kindergarten is a single teaching cycle: Petite Section (PS), Moyenne Section (MS) and Grande Section (GS). The learning that children do here is decisive, particularly in terms of language, a skill that is crucial to their later success at school. The emphasis is on acquiring a rich, organised oral language that can be understood by others.
The education provided in kindergarten encourages children to develop their personalities, stimulates their language, sensory, motor, cognitive and social development, builds their self-esteem and that of others, and contributes to their emotional fulfilment. The aim of this training is to develop in every child the desire and pleasure of learning, so that they can gradually become students.
Kindergarten is the first stage on the road to mastering the basics – reading, writing, counting and respecting others – by the end of primary school.
The curriculum is organised into five areas of learning:
At LFI-SR Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, non-French speaking children are able to integrate quickly and learn the French language very naturally. French-speaking children also develop spontaneously a great familiarity with the language of the host country: Khmer, as well as English language.
Age: 6-11 years
Elementary schools cater for pupils aged 6 to 11 in two cycles (cycle 2 and the beginning of cycle 3) and five class levels: cours préparatoire (CP), cours élémentaire 1ère année (CE1), cours élémentaire 2ème année (CE2), cours moyen 1ère année (CM1) and cours moyen 2ème année (CM2).
The education provided in elementary schools ensures the acquisition of the fundamentals: reading, writing, arithmetic and respect for others.

The first three years of elementary school (cycle 2: CP, CE1, CE2) are devoted to fundamental learning. In cycle 2, all teaching focuses on the world. The mastery of languages, and in particular the French language, is central.
What characterises cycle 2:
At LFI-SR Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, during the first three years of primary school (cycle 2) the emphasis is on mastery of the French language. Pupils with a poor command of the French language receive support in French as a second language (FLSco).
What characterises cycle 3:
At LFI-SR Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, the emphasis during the three years of cycle 3 is on learning English. At the end of these 3 years, pupils should be able to listen, understand, read, speak continuously, write, react and converse in English. They must have reached level B1 ‘intermediate’ of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
Age: 11-15 years
The collège has two cycles and four class levels: 6ème, 5ème, 4ème and 3ème.
Teaching at the collège is structured around the following subjects: French, mathematics, history-geography, moral and civic education, life and earth sciences, physics-chemistry, technology, English, Spanish, plastic arts, musical education and physical education and sport.
Students continue to learn Khmer.
The 6ème class (end of cycle 3) enables pupils to adapt to the organisation and environment of the collège, as well as ensuring continuity of the learning undertaken in the first two years of the cycle in the CM1 and CM2 classes. What has been learnt is consolidated and pupils are introduced to the working methods of the collège.
During the three years of JSS in cycle 4, the students are teenagers in full physical and mental evolution. What characterizes cycle 4 “cycle of in-depth studies”:
At the end of the third year, the pupils are assessed for the” Diplôme National du Brevet (DNB) “O” Level.
Obtaining the DNB is based on continuous assessment and five compulsory tests:
The success of the college student at DNB attests to his mastery of the common foundation of knowledge, skills and culture.
Age: 15-18 years
Its mission is to ensure the student’s success and to prepare him/her for the pursuit of his/her studies in higher education
In senior secondary, 3 levels mark out the pupil’s education:
An internationally recognized diploma: The French Baccalauréat.
Created in 1808, the Baccalauréat is a diploma of the French educational system which has the dual characteristic of marking the end of secondary studies and opening access to higher education. It constitutes the first university degree.
At LFI-SR Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, classes in Seconde are taught directly, while classes in Première and Terminale are taught by the Centre National d’Etudes à Distance (CNED) in a regulated full class. Pupils are supported and encouraged in their learning by teaching assistants. These teachers are fully conversant with the workings of the CNED and supervise the students both pedagogically and organisationally.
